  • [Dec 14, 2011] On Dec. 13, 2011, I received one of the two Scientific Prizes IBM Belgium for Informatics, for my Ph.D. dissertation "Multiresolution Image Models and Estimation Techniques." This prize is awarded anually by the Fund for Scientific Research - Flanders (FWO), le Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique (FNRS) and IBM in recognition of the best doctoral thesis to have made an original contribution to informatics or its applications.
  • [Oct 17, 2011] Kevin Anckaert (a former MSc. thesis student) has received the BARCO/FWO award for master theses 2011 with his work, entitled "joint noise reduction and demosaicing for the reconstruction of digital camera images". The award ceremony took place in Ghent on Oct. 14, 2011 during Film Festival Ghent. Congratulations Kevin!
  • [April 19, 2011] I am proud to be a member of the technical program committee of QoMEX2011 "Third International Workshop on Quality of Multimedia Experience" which will take place on Sept. 7-9 in Mechelen, Belgium.
  • [Dec 6, 2010] We are patenting a technique on CT noise estimation and suppression by post-processing of existing CT images (EP 10004848.7). Some info can be found here.
  • [Dec 6, 2010] I was proud to be invited and to be present at the BIRS workshop on sampling and reconstruction, held in Banff, Canada (Nov. 28-Dec. 3). The organizers Alireza Entezari, Torsten Moeller and Dimitri Van De Ville really did a great job by composing an interesting program and by choosing an amazing location! Some info on my talk is available here. A selection of pictures can be found here.
  • [June 14, 2010] A matlab implementation of our Non-local means algorithm is finally available. See here.
  • [May. 10, 2010] I successfully defended my Ph.D. dissertation (entitled "Multiresolution Image Models and Estimation Techniques", under supervision of prof. dr. ir. W. Philips and prof. dr. ir. A. Pizurica). Some pictures of the defense are available here.
  • [Dec. 9, 2009] Saartje De Neve (a former MSc. thesis student) has received the BARCO/FWO award for master theses 2009 with her thesis "Acquisition and display of images with a high dynamic range". The award ceremony took place in the Conference Theater of Barco in Kuurne, Belgium (more info here). Congratulations Saartje!
  • [Sept. 3, 2009] Our journal paper "Image Denoising using Mixtures of Projected Gaussian Scale Mixtures" is listed on position #33 in the top 100 of all accessed IEEE articles during July.
  • [Jun. 16, 2009] Our journal paper "Removal of Correlated noise by Modeling the signal of interest in the wavelet domain" that appeared in June 2009 is ranked #1 for top accessed journal papers for IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (TIP) in May 2009. For the general ranking of all IEEE journal papers for May 2009, the paper is at position #76. Only two TIP papers are in the top #100 (the other one at #91).
  • [Jun. 16, 2009] Due to high demand and popularity, a public implementation of our Non-local Means algorithm (from our LNLA 2008 paper) is coming soon. Some visual results of this method are available on my image restoration page.
